چکیده

Methods Eighty participants (57.5% female, mean age 70 years) were recruited from local podiatry clinics and The University of Newcastle. Automated Systoe (Atys Medical) and MicroLife (BP A100 Plus) devices were used to measure toe and brachial systolic blood pressures respectively, after 5, 10, and 15 minutes of rest. Two Podiatrists measured 20 participants on the same day to establish inter-rater reliability. Test-retest reliability was assessed by a single Podiatrist in 33 participants over two sessions, seven days apart. Effect of amount of pretest rest on TBI was evaluated in 80 participants by a single Podiatrist.

Using the Portapres® for the measurement of toe arterial blood pressure during movement: is it valid and reliable?

The aim of the study was to assess the validity and reliability of using the Portapres® to measure toe blood pressure during rest and exercise. Construct validity, concurrent validity, and interday reliability were assessed by measuring toe (Portapres®)) and brachial blood pressure in 16 nondisabled participants on consecutive days. Construct validity was assessed by pedaling on a cycle ergomet...

Effect of Premeasurement Rest Time on Systolic Ankle Pressure

BACKGROUND Systolic ankle pressures are routinely measured as part of an ankle-brachial index to screen for lower extremity peripheral arterial disease. Despite widespread use of this measurement, the effect of premeasurement duration of rest on the magnitude, or reliability of the ankle systolic pressure measurement is unknown. This study assessed the effect of premeasurement rest duration on ...

The reliability of toe systolic pressure and the toe brachial index in patients with diabetes

BACKGROUND The Ankle Brachial Index is a useful clinical test for establishing blood supply to the foot. However, there are limitations to this method when conducted on people with diabetes. As an alternative to the Ankle Brachial Index, measuring Toe Systolic Pressures and the Toe Brachial Index have been recommended to assess the arterial blood supply to the foot. This study aimed to determin...

Interrater and intrarater reliability of photoplethysmography for measuring toe blood pressure and toe-brachial index in people with diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND A reliable tool to measure arterial flow to the feet in people with diabetes is required given that they are particularly prone to peripheral arterial disease. Traditionally, the ankle brachial index (ABI) has been used to measure arterial circulation, but its application is limited due to calcification of larger arteries. More recently, toe pressure and the toe brachial index (TBI) ...

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall

Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been  introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the  substitution  of  the  blood  pressure  changes  in  the  central  arteries  such  as  carotid  with  the  blood  pressure  changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
